Online Learning Environment
The United States Sports University’s online learning environment offers the flexibility to take courses and complete your degree without leaving your home or job. USSU delivers degrees asynchronously through the University’s Learning Management System (LMS), Canvas, meaning professors and students don’t need to be online simultaneously — you can access coursework anytime, anywhere, at your own pace.
Getting Started All new online students must complete an online orientation prior to their first term. Orientation introduces students to Canvas, University resources, academic policies, and expectations for online learning, setting them up for a successful experience at USSU. Students will need a reliable internet connection and a compatible device, such as a desktop, laptop, or tablet, to participate in USSU’s online programs. The enrollment process outlines specific technical requirements, including browser compatibility and software needs, to ensure students are fully prepared before their first course begins.
Registration & Course Sessions Upon admission, students may register at any point during the term. During the fall and spring terms, USSU offers courses in either 8-week or 16-week sessions. The University offers summer term courses in 6-week or 12-week sessions. Active-duty military students have 18 weeks to complete their coursework.
Canvas Learning Management System Canvas gives students 24/7 access to all online courses, enabling them to submit assignments, participate in discussions, take quizzes and assessments, and interact with professors and classmates.
Academic Support & Resources USSU provides students with access to a range of University resources, including an extensive library and online databases, as well as online writing resources through the Center for Collegiate Excellence and Student Success (ACCESS). The University assigns each online student a dedicated academic advisor to assist with degree planning, course selection, and ensuring timely progress toward graduation. Advisors guide students from enrollment through completion of their program. USSU also offers tutoring services to help online students succeed academically, and students can connect with peer mentors who provide guidance and support based on their own experience navigating the online learning environment.
The United States Sports University has been approved to participate in the National Council for State Authorization Reciprocity Agreements (NC-SARA).
