Message From The President

“With a new strategic plan and a dynamic shared vision, the United States Sports University has a very bright future. The energy and growth with enrollment are evidence that the USSU brand is vibrant and globally recognized. The addition of the university’s first intercollegiate sports teams has provided the momentum needed to initiate new degree offerings and examine our elite product in the world market. With the addition of Jim Thorpe, Pat Summitt and Joan Cronan attaching their names and legacy to the university we now see a world-class reputation, for many years associated with the Olympics, going into multiple levels leadership for future generations of sports champions. The “Gold Standard” of sports education for more than 50 years is bigger and better than ever. We have applied to be recognized as an “Olympic Center for Research and Service” with the USPOC and the IOC. We continue to distinguish the university as the worldwide leader in sports higher education. Come and join us in the journey!”

About the President

Dr. Steve Condon was born in Newton, Massachusetts, and his life’s work has been shaped by a steady commitment to education, leadership, and student success. He first entered the field as an elementary school teacher, where he discovered a lasting passion for helping students grow, thrive, and reach their potential. That early classroom experience became the foundation for a career devoted to building strong learning communities and expanding opportunities for students.

Dr. Condon pursued his own education broadly and rigorously, earning degrees and completing studies through Boston College, Florida State, Alabama, Mississippi, and Harvard universities. Equipped with both practical experience and wide-ranging academic preparation, he moved into higher education and began serving institutions in roles marked by strategic growth and relational leadership.

Over the years, Dr. Condon has held senior administrative posts as a Dean or Vice President at Huntingdon, Lambuth, St. Thomas, LeTourneau, and Reinhardt universities. He later served as President or Chancellor of Tennessee Wesleyan, John Wesley, and Carolina universities, where he became especially known for enrollment expansion, fundraising success, and his gift for building dynamic, mission-focused teams. Across multiple campuses, his leadership consistently strengthened institutional stability and positioned schools for long-term growth.

In November 2022, Dr. Condon was elected the third President of the United States Sports University (USSU). Now beginning his third year in that role, he brings a seasoned, student-centered vision to the university—one shaped by decades of leadership, a deep understanding of institutional development, and an unwavering belief in the power of education to transform lives.

In addition to his administrative career, Dr. Condon’s 44 years in higher education include an exceptional record in athletics. He has served as a coach, winning four national championships and earning both a gold and a silver medal at the 1986 and 1988 World Championships in the sport of golf. In recognition of these achievements, he was inducted into the NCAA Hall of Fame in 2014 as a coach. He has also served as Athletic Director at Jeff Davis, Huntingdon, St. Thomas, Reinhardt, and Carolina universities, further reflecting his rare ability to unite academic excellence with athletic leadership.
