Transfer Credit

Undergraduate students may transfer up to 90 hours of credit in the following areas:

  • Maximum of 30 semester hours of general education components (GEC)
    • Six (6) semester hours of English
    • Six (6) semester hours of Fine Arts/Humanities
    • Six (6) semester hours of Social/Behavioral Sciences
    • Six (6) semester hours of Natural Science
    • Three (3) semester hours of Mathematics
    • Three (3) semester hours of Computer Science
      • Maximum of 30 semester hours of electives
      • Maximum of 30 semester hours of sports related courses

Undergraduate students must have a cumulative 2.0 GPA on all college coursework.

Graduate Transfer Students

Graduate Students may transfer the following number of credits:

  • Master’s – 15 credit hours
  • Doctoral – 24 credit hours

USSA will evaluate all transfer credit requests on a case-by-case basis.

Application Requirements

To complete your transfer application, you’ll need to submit the following:

Minimum GPA: A 2.5 GPA is required for graduate applicants.

Course descriptions and syllabi: For each course you wish to transfer, please submit a copy of the course description from your previous institution’s catalog and a copy of the syllabus outlining learning objectives and content.

Frequently Asked Questions

For undergraduates, any student who has already earned 60 or more semester hours of college credit from an accredited college or university.

For graduates, any master’s student who has already earned  at least 3 semester hours of sports-related courses (up to 15 hours) and any doctoral student who has earned at least 3 semester hours (up to 24 hours) of sports-related courses from an accredited college or university.

Transfer of upper-division coursework does not guarantee that transfer will satisfy requirement of a student’s chosen program. Students should check their program of study carefully to determine where any applicable transfer may satisfy degree requirements. Each course will be evaluated to determine if it meets requirements.

Students can send in all official transcripts from previous colleges for review and an Admissions Counselors will review all college credits.

  • For undergraduate students, up to 90 credit hours.

International students must provide copies of all course syllabi outlining learning objectives and course content in English. If the institution does not produce the syllabi in English, the student must provide certified copies translated into English.

International students must also provide copies of certified transcripts translated into English.

You will need to select a degree interest in order for an evaluation to take place and a Program of Study to be created. Accepted students can complete an Academic Information Change Form to request to have a major changed.

6 semester hours of English, 6 semester hours of Fine Arts/Humanities, 6 semester hours of Social/Behavioral Sciences, 6 semester hours of Natural Science, 3 hours semester hours of Mathematics, and 3 semester hours of Computer Science

International students must submit an official Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) score report.

College Level Examination Program (CLEP) credit may be accepted towards the 60 hours of transferable credit. The applicant must have an official CLEP score report mailed directly to Undergraduate Admissions.

No, you need a GED or equivalent.

You need at least 30 semester college hours to be accepted into the program as an undergraduate student.

USSA operates on the semester system and grants credit semester hours. The academic year consists of three semesters: fall, spring, and summer.

1.5 quarterly in a course equals 1 semester hour as transfer credit. If you earn 4.5 quarterly in a course, it equates to 3 semester hours as a transfer credit.

Students must complete at least 25% of their coursework at the University in order to receive a degree from USSU. This may vary depending on degree track and level. Please contact the Office of Admissions at [email protected] for more information.

Students transferring without all lower-division credit hours may be accepted on a conditional basis, but must earn any missing lower-division hours before the completion of their fourth core course and before being moved to full-standing status.
